The eight major signs of cancer
Cancer: recognize and interpret symptoms and signs. Cancer: Dysphagia and coughing up blood are among the most common warning signs of cancer.
Dysphagia and coughing up blood are among the most common warning signs of cancer.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Germany after cardiovascular disease. Accordingly great is the fear of the treacherous disease. Keele University researchers have identified which eight symptoms are most closely related to cancer. Most people have to worry about people over 55 years of age. Individual symptoms were assessed by combining the results of 25 previous studies.
Detected symptoms will be tested faster
The symptoms, such as dysphagia, hemoptysis or anemia, indicate cancer in at least one of 20 cases, according to the researchers. Although the researchers emphasized that even if one of the signs, the likelihood of a disease is still relatively low. However, if cancer was suspected, the necessary tests could be carried out more quickly. The disease can be detected early and treated better.
Dysphagia is a warning sign
In patients under the age of 55, there were only two signs commonly associated with cancer: abnormal results in a rectal prostate and breast lumps. In people over 55, dysphagia has been shown to be a significant warning sign of esophageal cancer - but only in males. Blood in the urine was equally a warning sign for men and women over the age of 60 years.
The physicians should be mindful
Shapley urges practitioners to take the warning signs into account and improve their care. In addition, the eight symptoms are far from the only ones. There are more than 200 forms of cancer that can cause a variety of symptoms.
Monitor the symptoms
In early stages of the disease, the chances of a cure for cancer are far better than if the cancer has progressed. Therefore, it is important to know possible physical signs and to observe yourself. The best chances of recovery, however, exist if the cancer is recognized as such, even before the first symptoms are visible. This is possible with some cancer diseases by simple and reliable examinations. For example, women over the age of 30 should have their cervix and breast examined regularly. The early detection of colorectal cancer, the most common cancer in Germany, should be undertaken annually by both men and women over the age of fifty.
Prevent as many cancer risks as possible
You can also reduce the risk of cancer through a healthy lifestyle. Who does not smoke, not only prevents lung cancer, but also other species. 40 to 60 percent of the cancers of the larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, but also bladder, pancreas, kidneys, stomach and cervix cancer are still associated with tobacco use. Obesity can also cause cancer.
Colon cancer risk increases with body weight
In particular, the risk of colon cancer increases continuously with body weight, especially in men. In contrast, women were shown to be overweight and at risk of developing cancer of the uterine lining. To avoid the risks as much as possible, the experts recommend that you do not exceed the recommended BMI of 25.
